WordPress VS Framer – Which platform is best for you?

WordPress or Framer?

Although I primarily specialized in WordPress development, I also like to explore new platforms and products as they come along. When I discover a tool that impresses me, I do more research and learn the ropes. About 1.5 years ago, I came across Framer, a web builder that claims to be a no-code solution for building websites. That sounds exciting to me, because design tools based on HTML are more than interesting to me.

Customers often come to me who already have WordPress websites and want to optimize their old website for speed. It is often WordPress plug-ins that slow everything down and the CSS classes built into WordPress. When I look at WordPress vs. Framer in comparison, I immediately notice that Framer doesn’t require any plugins at all. There is only one performance curve here, and it’s a steep one. Every Framer site I know of loads 3-4 times faster than WordPress. Anyone who values performance will no longer be able to avoid Framer in 2024.

No plug-in updates required

The development via Framer costs a little more once, as there are no ready-made modules, but in the medium term it saves the maintenance effort and also the costs. The average price for monthly WordPress maintenance is currently between €49 and €69, which is between €500.00 and €600.00 per year. If you can’t or don’t want to do it yourself, you have to outsource the maintenance. Over a period of 2 years, you have already paid more than having something created by Framer.

Another plus point is that there are no annoying maintenance updates. With WordPress, updates are due almost every week, which you should do or outsource to a WordPress maintenance service, but this also incurs additional costs if you don’t want to or can’t do it yourself.

But when should you consider WordPress?

WordPress is currently the most widespread and most frequently used content management system (CMS) available to users for creating and managing professional websites. Originally a platform for blogging, WordPress has evolved into a comprehensive CMS system that can be used for a variety of purposes. These uses include personal blogging, e-commerce websites, social networks and a variety of other applications. I recommend using WordPress if you want an online store but don’t yet have the budget to purchase a large system like Shopware. WordPress offers better options here than Framer currently does. However, there will also be a highly professional option here in mid-2024.

What is WordPress?

The WordPress source code is open source and allows for unrestricted use, modification and redistribution. This attribute has fostered a thriving and collaborative network of designers, developers and users who work together to improve and expand the platform. Individuals, businesses and organizations looking to quickly and easily establish an online presence often choose WordPress. This is due to its user-friendly interface and extensive collection of layouts, patterns, blocks, plugins and themes that offer a wide range of customization options.

When using WordPress, it should also be noted that certain actions, such as setting up hosting, installing themes and plug-ins and editing HTML, CSS and/or JavaScript, require the same level of expertise as with Framer. You are welcome to take a closer look at Framer, it costs nothing. You can take your first steps without paying any fees. Take a look here.
